PSYCH: The Action Figures We Didn’t Ask For (But Totally Deserve) — Part 1: The Shawn Spencer Situation

Picture this: you’re lounging in your childhood bedroom (which now doubles as your home office/gaming den/crying space), thinking to yourself, “You know what the world needs? A Shawn Spencer action figure.” And not just any figure, but one that oozes charm, unearned confidence, and the occasional scent of freshly sliced pineapple.

Enter AI.

Because why have humans or small children painstakingly sculpt action figures when a glorified toaster with Wi-Fi can do it in 0.3 seconds flat?

Create a Shawn Spencer toy. Easy, right? Just throw in some spiky hair, a mischievous smirk, and a tiny plastic iPhone glued to his palm for “psychic” texting. But nooooo. AI had other plans.

Task #1: Valley of the Dall-e’s!!

Action figures of Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster from Psych, displayed inside a colorful packaging. Accessories and character details include a pineapple, detective tools, and humorous labels.

Dall-e. The old school Open Ai image generator. This janky-ass monstrosity looked like a rejected Ken doll who fell into a vat of Axe body spray and regret. The hair? More David Hasselhoff than psychic sleuth. And what the heck are Flap Shoes? I get the Gus (don’t get me started on that rendition yet), yet what is a carton of tap shoes?

The Ai’s dyslexic view of text is humorous to say the least.

“BlueBeoy!” is my new catch-phrase.

Attempt #2 Shawn Solo

A Star Wars-themed action figure resembling a character inspired by Shawn Spencer, wearing a green shirt and blue jeans, holding a plastic pineapple and a cell phone, with a vintage-style packaging featuring a cartoon version of the character.

The attempt to create a Psych action figure in older image generators can by haunting and fun at the same time. Oddly, given the prompt to make the package similar the the Star Wars figures of the 70’s, Dall-e took it literally.

Like a raccoon tripping out on meth, Dall-e went full retro Psych/Star Wars and created a new universe we didn’t know we needed.

I mean, honestly, it’s the most wrong and right of the bunch at the same time. I really dig the old Hasbro vibe, the 70’s afro-puff Brady Bunch look and the mix of an armed Shawn lost in space with his cosmic pineapple. Let’s put a pin in this one for a future spin-off.

Attempt #3 Shawn “Short-arms” Spencer

A Shawn Spencer action figure in packaging, featuring a man with tousled hair and a serious expression, dressed in a green shirt and jeans, alongside a small plastic pineapple.

This bootleg lookalike who dresses like 2006 never ended and he wants to sell you a used 10 cd-changer for your car. Love the pineapple being Hyperrealistic but Shawn here is looking less than happy and I want to know where his legs are. They just cut the dude off at the junk and went on with the day. Horrible.

This version is from Sora, the upgraded Open Ai platform that allows you to make images and gives you the option to make videos. Just kidding, you can’t get it to make videos!

Attempt #4. Shawn of the Dead.

Action figure of Shawn Spencer from the TV show Psych, displayed in packaging designed to resemble classic 70s toy boxes, with a green background and bold lettering.

Shawn gets his knees back but no feet or ankles or shins. He screams, “I solve crimes, but I’m dead inside.” Yikes.

But don’t worry, Psych-os. The AI is learning. Slowly. Like, “Gus-learning-to-dance-in-a-flashback” slowly. And when we finally nail the perfect Shawn Spencer toy, it’ll come fully loaded with sarcastic one-liners, a faux-leather jacket, and a hidden compartment that smells faintly of pineapple and overconfidence.

Attempt #5 Mini-me

An action figure of Shawn Spencer from 'Psych,' displayed in retro packaging. The figure features a realistic likeness of Shawn wearing a green shirt, accompanied by a miniature cellphone and a lime.

Let’s talk about the next big swing in the Psych Action Figure Multiverse. And by “big swing,” I mean “a bold choice made by an AI that may or may not understand the laws of time, physics, or common sense.”

Introducing:
“Shawn & Little Not Shawn: Psychic Time Buddies” — the double-pack that no one saw coming and everyone wishes came with instructions.

Two Shawns. One blister pack. Infinite confusion.

At first glance, it seems adorable. You’ve got Full-Sized Present-Day Shawn—sporting his signature smirk, casual-yet-calculated hair, and jeans that are one chili dog away from no longer fitting. And right next to him? A pocket-sized Little Not Shawn, maybe?

But here’s where things get weird.

The packaging implies they’re partners. Not “past and present,” but like, coexisting crime-solving bros. I even have a tagline:

“Double the Shawns. Double the Detection. Half the Maturity.”

Also, they wink at the same time. That’s not comforting. That’s horror movie territory.

Despite the existential crisis this toy induces, it’s still a collector’s item. Why? Besides the obvious, there’s the unsung oddity in the package. A lime. I don’t want to be in this universe.

Attempt Whatever: The winner!

Action figure of Shawn Spencer from 'Psych,' featuring accessories like a pineapple, sunglasses, and a cell phone, packaged in a retro-style box.

Ladies, gentlemen, and pineapple enthusiasts, I give you: The chosen one!

Perfection.

We’re talking high-definition, 6-inch-tall plastic genius.

His hair? Peak tousled chaos, like it was styled by wind, danger, and a mild amount of coconut oil.

His wardrobe? Classic Spencer drip: green plaid shirt over a tee, jeans that somehow scream both “I solve crimes” and “I once failed a yoga class,” and—yes—a wristwatch he never uses.

His eyes? A piercing blue that says, “I definitely don’t have psychic abilities, but I do have HBO-level intuition and the confidence of a guy who’s never read an instruction manual in his life.”

But the real win? The quotes. I’m going to pitch this to Hasbro.

Push a tiny button on his stylishly lazy hip and he drops gems like:

  • “I’m a psychic. That’s how I know stuff. Also… I read it on a napkin.”
  • “Suck it!”
  • “I’ve heard it both ways.”
  • “I sense… a strong need for waffles.”

It also comes with accessories. So many accessories:

  • A miniature pineapple (obviously)
  • The all important cell phone
  • A fake ID that says “Super Psychic Guy, LLC”

And let’s not forget the face sculpt—it actually captures the look. You know the one. That “I just tricked a homicide detective using a Magic 8-Ball and a bag of trail mix” expression.
You can practically hear the theme song when you look at it.

This figure will fly off shelves. Collectors will fight over it like it was the last pineapple fritter at the Santa Barbara farmers market.

Even Henry admitted, “Not bad, kid.”

Which is basically an emotional monologue coming from him.

This, dear Psych-os, was the Spencer figure. The one true chosen toy. The one that finally proved AI could understand what we already knew:

Shawn Spencer is many things—detective, showboat, lover of snacks—but now, he’s also… an action hero. Here’s an alt-version that looks ready for production. Time to book a slot on Shark Tank.

Action figure of shawn spencer wearing a blue shirt and jeans, standing next to a pineapple and a cell phone.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where the AI attempts to make a Gus figure and accidentally creates a pharmaceutical rep who moonlights as a jazz flautist. (Which, honestly, might be canon.)
